Nasal Injury Treatments

In cases where the skin has been punctured on the nose, one of our physicians will carefully clean and close the wound using self-adhesive strips or sutures. It is also advised that the patient receive an injection to prevent tetanus if their vaccination of 10 years is not up to date. In the case of bony fractures, severe swelling may occur. It usually takes about a week before swelling has resolved enough for the bones to be examined.

In the case of nasal injuries, x-rays are not commonly needed, as most injuries are uncomplicated. However, if more serious injuries that include the skull and face have occurred, an x-ray should be conducted. If the nose is misshapen after swelling has gone down, manipulation under anesthesia may be required.
